What does it do?
The Encyclopedic Gear Set has gears from 12 to 30 and explores the themes of, tiny pen holes, and offset pen holes.
Tiny pen holes (1 mm diameter) are smaller than the small pen holes (3 mm diameter) which are common on most gears. These pen holes allow for more pen holes to fit on a gear, giving more design options. They do need specific types of pens to use, as standard ballpoint pens do not fit in the tiny holes.
Each gear has an 'T' and 'G' version where the pen holes on one are aligned with the gear teeth (T) and on the other they are aligned with the gaps (G) in the gear teeth. This has several design possibilities when they are used together in one design.

- You can use the T and the G gear in the same ring to make a design with twice as many petals as would otherwise be possible
- You can use the T gear in a ring. Then place the gear of the same size in the ring. Then use the G gear around the ring to make the designs line up perfectly.

Other details:
This gear set has smaller pen holes than usual. Other than the three gears in the top right all the other gears have small pen holes (3mm) or very small pen holes (1.5 mm). Most pens work with and fit into the small pen holes, that is what they were sized for. The very small pen holes require pens with very pointy tips.
There are many brands of pens that will work in the very small pen holes that populate the Encyclopedic Gear Set. The one pictured in the example photos above is a purple V5 Pilot Hi-techpoint 0.5 mm tip pen. Art supply stores should have a wide range of types and colours available.
