There are several gear sets that contain modular pieces. These are gear sets that have puzzle piece like gears that snap together to make gear shapes.

Modular pieces are made from pieces of a 180/120 hoop. The numbers on each modular piece show how many gear teeth the piece has and how many degrees of the hoop the piece is made of. You don't need to use either of these numbers but they can be helpful in creating some shapes.
Because it is a 180/120 hoop that they are made of you can only use gears smaller than 120.
There are also three way Y connectors, four way X connectors, and five way star connectors.
The puzzle pieces slide together and are held in place with a friction fit. This means that sometimes putting the pieces together can be a bit challenging (they can be taken apart too). The snugness does mean that there is no wiggle in the shapes you make with multiple modular pieces and that they don't fall to pieces when moved or picked up.
